Choosing A Reputable Remover

It is very important for a surveyor to visit your home to assess the move, whenever possible. Some companies will suggest that you send them a list of things to be moved or may suggest a Zoom call. We will always aim to send one of our qualified surveyors out to meet you in person at your home. Once you have contacted us, an appointment will be made for you on a day and at a time that suits you. This is a completely free service and our surveyor will not only make careful notes of everything that is to be moved, but he will also be able to answer any questions that you may have and also take the time to carefully explain the move process to you. When a survey is conducted in person, the assessment of your furniture and effects will be accurate and items that need dismantling and special attention will be noted too.

These days, there are many removals companies vying for your business.  Try to ensure that they are experienced, professional and reputable.  One simple way that you can do this is to look at their website.  Are the lorries in the photos sign written?  Are there any photos of their premises and pictures of uniformed staff?  Do they appear to have genuine reviews?   All of these things are important.   Anyone can have a basic website built quite cheaply and hire vehicles that are not fit for purpose.  They often employ friends and casual acquaintances to help them.  They are very likely to be untrained and without any experience or insurance.
Our staff are all fully trained, as there really is a right way to lift and move heavy items of furniture.  Loading the lorry is a skill that only professional removal teams can achieve through training and experience.   You will be putting your trust into strangers to look after your worldly goods safely, without damage or breakages.

The other important thing to consider is how your move will be staffed. If you receive a quotation that is a lot less than others, usually it is because that particular company will be allocating less staff than your move needs for it to go well.  When a move is understaffed, the men that you do have will be rushing to catch up and this is when damage occurs.  Shortage of staff will also result in a very long day, with everyone working late into the evening. We will always plan to have you settled into your new home by around 5 pm.  The last thing you want on removal day is to be making up beds and unpacking essential items late at night.

Lastly, The chosen company should be a member of The National Guild of Removers and Storers (NGRS).

You can read about this and the importance of being a member in the next section NGRS.

Ensure that the company have a large team available who are fully trained, experienced and insured. Crutch brothers have this which means that if you require five or six men for your move to go to plan, We can help as we never understaff a move and that is why our reputation is unparalleled.

Find out if they have a fleet of vehicles of varying sizes that can cope with your move? The contents of a large house, quite simply cannot fit on to a Luton van or in many cases, even a 7.5-tonne lorry. . We have a large fleet of vans and lorries from the smallest van right up to HGV size lorries (Think double-decker bus). You may well need more than one HGV if you are leaving a large property and this is where we can cope but many others can’t.

Furthermore, ensure that the company you choose is a member of the National Guild of Removers and Storers, a body that fully audits a removals company before allowing membership. Guild members will have also completed the ‘Compulsory Scheme Approved Inspection Programme’ – look at the NGRS link on our homepage or click here for more details.

Finally, check the company’s testimonials, usually found on their website. Do remember though that anybody can write a testimonial and post it on their website – ensure to the best of your ability that the testimonials are genuine!
